2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Italy establishing diplomatic relations with China. To promote two countries’ industrial, economic and commercial collaboration to a higher level, the Office of the Organizing Committee of the CIIF has signed a memorandum of understanding with China-Italy Chamber of Commerce in June this year under the support of the Italian Embassy in China. It lays solid foundation for the setup of Italian National Pavilion at CIIF this time and the holding of the China-Italy Industry and Innovation Forum.

China is Italy's largest trade partner in Asia, and Italy is China's fifth largest trade partner within EU. Italy's mechanical industry is closely linked to China. 50% of Italy's total exports to China comes from mechanical and engineering technology. In recent years, the Italian manufacturing industry has shown a higher level of quality and innovation. In order to promote and spread Italy's technological image and outstanding influence in this industry, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce(CICC) organized and promoted the first Week of Italian Mechanical Engineering in China (WIMEC) with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Beijing, the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA/ICE).
In recent years, China and Italy have seen their economic and trade exchange continue to develop, with bilateral trade growing at a steady pace. Against the backdrop of fierce global competition, Italy is still in a leading position in the industrial field. When it comes to the Industry 4.0 plan, Italy aims to use its implementation to drive up the competitiveness of their enterprises and the entire industrial chain, especially in the areas of intelligent manufacturing, new energy vehicles and innovative technologies. CIIF has been serving as an important window and platform for China's industry to interface with the world as to economic and trade cooperation, helping both countries to build up a new collaboration platform in the area of industrial upgrade and innovation.
