The initiative aimed at awarding Italian and Chinese companies, which contributed to reinforce the economical relations between Italy and China. UFI SOFIMA Filter Group' s President Giorgio Girondi reported some milestones of the firm history when interviewed by AgiChina24, stating that:" During a negotiation with FIAT TRATTORI a Chinese delegation showed a great interest in our filters production. That was the first time that we came in contact with China, back in 1983. Following the first meeting, as above mentioned, UFI SOFIMA had other six meeting in which the firm committed to offer its very own know-how, experience in the field and own machinery to start-up the production in China. Later on, we had the opportunity to establish a joint-venture with the Ministry of Aviation (1994) and WOFEs (Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise) in Shanghai and Changchun. Today we are proud to affirm that China represents 75% of our work-force, with about 2200 workers/staff, and the highest investment flow of the Group. A reason of these efforts is that we believe that China will be the world first producer of vehicles".
