On Friday, 10 April 2026, the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China (CCIC) with its Healthcare Working Group (HCWG), successfully hosted the seminar “What Italy Can Offer to China – Exploring Excellence in Biotech, Pharma, and AI”, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), during the prestigious China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF), in Shanghai.
Highlights of the event:
The seminar brought together leading Italian companies and industry professionals to showcase Italy’s leadership and innovation in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and AI-driven healthcare solutions.
Participants gained strategic insights into China’s rapidly evolving healthcare sector, exploring opportunities for collaboration in areas such as biotech, MedTech, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and digital health.
Discussions focused on the immense potential for Italy-China cooperation in healthcare, emphasizing Italy’s strong R&D capabilities, technological innovation, tradition of quality and reliability, and most important thing: product localization.
The event started with the opening remarks by Stefania Mortelliti, Vice Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, and Fabio De Cillis, Trade Commissioner, ITA Shanghai office.
Seminar session moderated by Vojko Bratina, Science and Technology Counsellor at the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai. At the discussion took part: Elena Barboni, BD Director of Flamma Group & Coordinator of the CCIC Healthcare Working Group (CCIC HCWG); Valtero Canepa, Bracco Imaging, Head of APAC Region; Luca Zanini, GVS VP Medtech Division; and Giada Piccinini, DiaSorin China Controller.
The seminar concluded with a lively Q&A session encouraging knowledge exchange and potential collaborations.
