Chengdu, June 11th, 2026 – The "Tongwei Co., Ltd Factory Tour & SACE Roadshow," co-organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China (CCIC) and Tongwei Co., Ltd, was successfully held on the afternoon of June 11, 2026, in Chengdu. The event was part of a series event of Factory Tour organized by CCIC in every territory of China, with the support of SACE and the Energy and Environment Protection Working Group (EEPWG) of CCIC.
The event started at Tongwei's headquarters in Chengdu, bringing together nearly 30 participants from the renewable energy industry, as well as CCIC members with an interest in the sector and the company. The participants first visited the Tongwei Showroom to gain a deeper understanding of the company's development across its various business divisions. Following the tour, the event moved into a sharing session, where Mr. Massimo Bagnasco, CCIC Vice President in Chongqing, delivered the opening remark.
In his address, Mr. Bagnasco highlighted that the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China has always been committed to facilitating communication between Italian and Chinese enterprises, particularly in the energy and environmental protection sectors. He stated that CCIC, together with the Energy and Environment Protection Working Group (EEPWG), is ready to lead this moment by supporting and promoting Italian industrial and service excellence in the energy and environmental technology sectors – towards institutions, entities, associations, media, and exhibitions in China – while also opening up exchanges with Italy, coordinating industry events and matchmaking activities. He also took the opportunity to introduce the 4th China-Europe Energy Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum which will be held in Chengdu on June 25-26, 2026. CCIC is currently organizing an Italian business delegation to participate in the forum, and he extended a warm invitation to all the participants to join this delegation.
Mr. Peter Bian, Regional Manager EU, PV Business Division, Tongwei Co., Ltd., first delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Tongwei, and then presented the Development of Tongwei's Photovoltaic Industry and the Global Innovation – R&D Center Overview. He highlighted that Tongwei is the world's first PV manufacturer listed on the Fortune Global 500, having remained on the list for three consecutive years. Established in 1982 and based in Chengdu, Tongwei now operates over 200 subsidiaries worldwide. He detailed the company's fully integrated PV industry chain, from metallurgical-grade silicon to ingots, wafers, solar cells, modules, and the "Fishery+PV" integration model. He also emphasized Tongwei's sustainability commitments, including its partnership with WWF as the first Chinese private enterprise to join the its Arctic Programme.
This initiative launched also the first Sace’s Roadshow in Southwest China in 2026, Mr. Jay Chen, Representative for Asia Pacific & Greater China Coverage at SACE, introduced SACE the Italy's Export Credit Agency, owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and its core activities in trade finance, strategic partnerships, risk mitigation, and business matching. He elaborated on the Archimede Guarantee and how SACE can support foreign companies in their partnership and development in Italy . Thanks to this Roadshow, the collaboration between CICC and SACE in Southwestis getting closer and more effective and useful, benefitting Italian companies and Chinese partners.
Mr. Gianluca Coletti, Coordinator of the EEPWG, CTO of Futurasun, and Adjunct Professor at UNSW Sydney, delivered a thematic speech. He first introduced the EEPWG's mission to promote Italian excellence in China's energy and environmental sectors and then shared his insights on the future of solar manufacturing and cross-border cooperation. He highlighted the growing need for system flexibility in the energy transition, the rising importance of pumped hydro and storage solutions, and the accelerating shift toward intelligent energy systems. Observing SNEC 2026 trends, he called for deeper cooperation between China, Europe, and Australia to lower barriers in standards, investment, and grid integration.
Following the presentations, an open discussion was held, during which participating companies exchanged views on potential future cooperation between Italian and Chinese enterprises in the photovoltaic industry.
Participants then took a bus excursion to the Tongwei Global Innovation R&D Center for a factory tour. Guided by Tongwei’ s team, attendees then moved to visit the 108,000 m² facility, which houses multiple pilot lines including TNC Cell, TBC Cell & Module, Module R&D, PV Testing, THC & THL GW-level, and a Perovskite Laboratory Cell Testing Center, gaining first-hand insight into Tongwei's latest advancements in high-efficiency cells and modules.
CCIC will continue to facilitate industry exchanges between its members, friends and business partners.
