On April 22nd, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China (CCIC) hosted the seminar “Retirement Disputes & Risk Mitigation for Over-Age Employment: Legal & Tax Implications” in the heart of Tianjin’s Italian-style district at Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, bringing together HR, legal, and finance professionals to address a growing operational challenge for companies in China: managing employees who continue working beyond the normal retirement age.
The event is part of CCIC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in Tianjin and Northern China, supporting the local business community through targeted initiatives and knowledge-sharing platforms.
With China’s aging population and evolving labor market, over-age employment has become a critical compliance and risk management issue for businesses. The seminar offered a practical, dual perspective on how to prevent disputes, structure employment relationships, and align legal compliance with financial sustainability.
The event, moderated by Federica Viggiani, Deputy Secretary General of CCIC and Head of CCIC Beijing Office opened with welcome remarks by Francesco Innocenti, CCIC Board Member North China. Expert insights were then shared by Charles Xu, Counsel at D’Andrea & Partners Legal Counsel, who focused on the legal framework, highlighting the importance of proactively structuring employment relationships and ensuring clarity in contracts to avoid disputes, and by Stefano Catozzi, Senior Advisor at PHC Advisory Tax & Accounting, who addressed the tax and financial implications, emphasizing how the classification of employment can significantly impact costs and compliance, and why managing over-age employment should be approached as a strategic financial decision.
The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, followed by an Italian networking dinner.
The evening highlighted CCIC’s ongoing commitment to supporting the business community in Tianjin and Northern China, through tailored business services, knowledge-sharing initiatives and continuous dialogue with local stakeholders and authorities.
Through these efforts, CCIC contributes to creating a more connected and supportive business environment, facilitating dialogue and opportunities for growth across the region.
