Founded in 1937 in Milan, Mapei is today one of the world leaders in the production of adhesives, complementary products for laying all types of floor and wall and coating materials, as well is also specialised in other chemical products used in the building industry, such as waterproofing products, special mortars, admixtures for concrete, products for underground constructions and for the restoration of concrete and historical buildings.
89 years of making an important contribution to the successful completion of many new construction projects, as well as the restoration and conservation of important examples of our artistic and cultural heritage in Italy and around the world. Until 2025, Mapei’s production may be summarised in the following figures: 4.4 billion euros total turnover; almost 14,000 direct employees in the Group. There are currently 92 subsidiaries in the Mapei Group, with a total of 109 production facilities located around the world.
Research & Development
Mapei has always been highly committed to research: 12% of the Group’s employees are involved in research, and 5% of our annual turnover into R&D. Mapei’s research scientists work within a global network comprising 39 main Product Innovation Centers. The R&D laboratories equipped with the most sophisticated equipment available. They also provide support to the Technical Services Department to help solve key application problems and reply to the most complicated requests from our customers, and are monitored by the quality control laboratories, present in all the Group’s 109 production facilities.
Our name is synonymous with innovation and every year we create many new formulations to meet all your needs. We supply more than 8,400 technologically advanced products that take into consideration the widest variety of requirements imaginable and, in so doing, we help improve the characteristics of buildings, from anti-seismic upgrading to the healthiness of our surroundings.
Eco-sustainability
Mapei joined the International Chemical Industry's "Responsible Care" campaign in 1992 to commit to sustainable development. Since October 2005, Mapei's environmentally friendly series of products have been certified by the GEV Association and have obtained EMICODE EC1 certification. Mapei contributes to the LEED scoring scheme for the construction industry through its VOC range of products, which use recycled raw materials or by-products generated during their production processes.
Starting from Year 2022, Mapei also joined the Group to promote actively the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), that calculates the impacts of our products on the environment using the standardized LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method.
The factory in China emphasizes much on the production and product quality control. The production procedures and management are certified by notable international institutions and successfully awarded the ISO9001, ISO 14001 & ISO45000 certificates. The production technologies have reached international standards and every procedure of production is monitored meticulously.
Mapei has been awarded an eco-certification by the China Environmental Labelling. The products awarded with this certification represents the product quality, as well as both the adoption of raw materials and the production process are in line with the specified environmental requirements. Compared with other similar products, labeled products are certified to be with low toxicity, less harmful, and also environmental friendly.
In 2020, Mapei was the first manufacturing of flooring product range certified the national "China Green Product". And subsequently most of Mapei's adhesives and waterproofing products are in complied with the standards.

MAPEI in China market
Presently, two factories in Guangzhou Conghua and Zhejiang Huzhou, three sales offices in China Hong Kong SAR, Shanghai and Guangzhou respectively with around 170 employees. In 2023, the total turnover of the China market is around 550 million RMB.
Mapei two factories specialize in producing and promoting (some imported from Italy) the following product lines:
- Products for cementitious and resin flooring: include cementitious, polyurethane and epoxy resin flooring products, as well concrete protection and additive products. Mapei also provides the specific flooring system for specific industry area, such as electronic, food and dairy factories. In addition, decorative flooring system of Ultratop Loft and “terrazo effect” of Ultratop are mainly for the commercial area.
- Products for ceramics and stone materials including waterproofing products, adhesives & grouts: Mapei tile adhesive range offers various adhesives that are suitable for many substrates and application conditions. Mapei is professional manufacturer providing solutions to fulfill different application requirements. Mapei has a complete range of grouts for all type of venues, comprising residential, commercial, public facilities, industrial places. Mapei epoxy color grouts are particularly suitable when requirements for hygiene and resistance to aggressive chemicals are required, such as for floors in the food industries (meat factories, oil mills, etc.).
- Mapei waterproofing materials: has good elasticity and waterproofing ability. Products are non-toxic, user-friendly, easy to apply on wet substrates, compact waterproofing layer maintains building’s stabilized structure, stopping vapor penetration, cracking and damages to substrates.
- Products for resilient, LVT, textile materials and sports flooring: provide the installation solution for rubber flooring and PVC materials. Sports installation solution for artificial grass and rubber tracks, and TNS coating for use sports and greenway areas.
- Products for wooden flooring: such as substrate preparation, bonding adhesives, maintenance, and cleaning products.
The wall coating system for interior imported from Mapei S.p.A recently are being introduced in China market.
Mapei has many achievements in China, wide range of Mapei products have been applied in many kinds of constructions: complex constructions such as Shanghai International Tourism & Resort Zone (Disneyland Shanghai) and Universal Beijing Resort; Huawei projects (including plants, commercial building, offices and dormitories, etc) ; commercial constructions such as Museum of Art Pudong, SKP, RT Mart; residential projects such as real estate of Hejing, Hengyu, Poly; showroom as Adidas and Kate Spade Boutique adopted Ultratop Loft.
What’s more, Mapei flooring installation systems have been used extensively in commercial venues, schools, public facilities, food and electronics industries, including IKEA, Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, Guangzhou Arts Museum, Xiamen Airlines new headquarters, Changchun FAW Group project, ABB Chongqing Liangjiang project, Beijing Daxing Int’l Airport, Hefei Azera car plant and OPPO plant projects, etc.
Sports facilities such as Suzhou Sports School and Nanchang Yuxin School chose Mapei adhesives to install the rubber tracks and artificial grass. Tennis court of Guangzhou International Tennis School adopted TNS system. Hangzhou Asian Games Baseball, Softball and Hockey Stadium used Ultrabond Turf 2 Stars to bond the artificial turf.
