The first Week of Italian Mechanical Engineering in China will make its debut in Shanghai at the CIIF - registration for visitors

Dear Members and Friends of the CICC,

The China Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) is proud to introduce you to the incoming events concerning the Italian mechanical engineering sector in Shanghai.

Under the initiative and proposal of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) and with the support of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA/ICE), the 1st Week of Italian Mechanical Engineering in China (WIMEC) will kick off at the China International Industry Fair (CIIF) 2020.

The goal is to promote the knowledge and the awareness of the importance of Italy’s mechanical engineering to the Chinese public.

Why organize a Week of Italian Mechanical Engineering in China?

  • Italy is the second largest manufacturing country in Europe, 100 billion Euro and ranking seventh in the world. The production system of Italy consists of 4.6 million companies.
  • The export of the entire sector is in fact equal to over 49% of the Italian export, both worldwide and to China (11.8% of the fashion industry and 9% of the food industry) which are the sectors usually identified as the excellence of Made in Italy.
  • China ranks eighth among markets for Italian exports in this sector, but in some categories such as machinery, China is the third largest export market after the United States and Germany.
  • Italy therefore stands as the supplier of technologies and machinery of the main industrial powers in the world.
  • Italy's mechanical industry is closely linked to China. 50% of Italy's total exports to China is made of mechanical and engineering technology  (3.7% of the agri-food industry and 18% of the fashion industry). In the mechanical engineering sector, the main category is machinery, which represents 56% of total Italian exports of around 4 billion Euros.

The China International Industry Fair (CIIF)

The China International Industry Fair takes place from 15 to 19 September in Shanghai, gathering thousands of participants at each edition. In 2019, over 2600 international companies and about 200,000 visitors joined the CIIF.

At the 2020 edition, Italy will be present with a national pavilion of 47 companies, highlighting technological excellencies. To support the Italian presence, the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, the Italian Trade Agency and the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, organize various activities, such as the seminar: Sustainable Technology, Mechanics and mobility, the first Sino-Italian forum on Italian Engineering Technology; some promotional activities carried out together with local partners such as industry associations, governmental agencies and universities in China; other promotional activities and seminars organized by the Mechanical Engineering Working Group of the CICC (more information about the agenda will follow soon).
