Shanghai - The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce has taken part to the celebration of Rita Levi Montalcini`s 100th birthday, in the course of an event organized on April 14th at the Radisson Hotel in Shanghai by the Shanghai Women`s Federation and the Cultural Office of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai.
Ms. Montalcini, Nobel prize winner in 1986 and Life Senator of Italian Parliament, has given a tremendous contribution to medical research, discovering in 1952 the NGF (Nerve Growth Factor).
Speeches were given by Mr. Massimo Roscigno, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, and by Mrs. Zhang Lili, President of the Shanghai Women`s Federation, to honor the endeavor and the achievements of Mrs. Montalcini.
Elena Tosana, Manager of CICC in Shanghai, gave a speech focused on the strategic role of Ms. Montalcini to assess with her life commitment and actions the women`s right in enjoying leveled playing field opportunities with men, in careers, social roles and scientific research.
Paolo Sabbatini, Director of the Italian Cultural Office delighted the audience telling anecdotes about Ms. Montalcini`s visit to China in the 80`s.
The event was sponsored by Association of Piedmont in Shanghai and Radisson Hotel.
All the participants raised a toast to wish Ms. Montalcini a Happy Birthday!
