IPeritif on Chinese IP in Europe, 25.04, Shanghai

15 May 2025

On April 25, 2025 the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC), in collaboration with its Intellectual Property Working Group (IPWG), successfully organized the IPeritif titled “Chinese IP in Europe: Cases and Numbers”. The event has been hosted at GioGiò Italian Restaurant in Shanghai and brought together company representatives from different sectors to discuss the crucial theme of intellectual property (IP).

The talk was moderated by Fabio Giacopello, senior partner at HFG LAW & IP and Coordinator of the IPWG, while two professionals took the stage to share their expertise:

  • Royal Hu, Head of Patent Team at Allasya Law & IP, focused on the growing presence of Chinese enterprises in the European IP landscape and their leading role in trademark, design, and patent registrations in Europe. She also highlighted the challenges they face in enforcing rights abroad, often becoming targets of infringement cases at the Unified Patent Court.

  • Valentin de le Court, lawyer at Osborne Clarke in Brussels, presented the strong European IP framework and newly established Unified Patent Court (UPC), which has become a key battleground for Chinese tech firms. He shared the recent legal cases involving Chinese companies at the Unified Patent Court (UPC), examining their strategies and challenges both as plaintiffs and defendants.

The speakers engaged in a productive discussion with the 11 participants, who raised questions and made insightful observations.

The evening concluded with an aperitif, which was a culinary journey through Apulia and during which the attendees had the chance to share their experiences and connect.

The CICC would like to thank all the participants, the speakers and GioGiò Italian Restaurant for his hospitality.

As always, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce continues to support Italian companies with targeted events that not only promote Made in Italy but also provide opportunities for updates, networking, and strengthening relationships with local authorities, supporting Italian businesses in their growth and success in the Chinese market.
