CICC Seminar: Key Insights on Over-Age Employment in China

01 December 2025

On November 27th, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) hosted a highly informative seminar, themed "Retirement Disputes and Risk Mitigation for Over-Age Employment: Legal & Tax Implications" at ZE’VERO (Garden Hotel) in Guangzhou, in collaboration with its member D’Andrea & Partners.

Following the welcome remarks by Romina Di Martino, CICC South China Office Manager, a key highlight was the profound expertise shared by two distinguished speakers, who delved into the legal and fiscal aspects of employing senior workers.

Mr. Matteo Zhi, Senior Partner of D’Andrea & Partners Legal Counsel, opened the keynote session with his presentation, "Compliance Strategies for Enterprises Employing Over-Age Employees: 2025 Regulatory Update." He advised clearly defining the employment relationship (labor vs. service contract), incorporating key protective clauses, and effectively mitigating disputes over severance, social security, and injuries.

Following the legal deep-dive, Mr. Stefano Catozzi, Senior Advisor of PHC Advisory, presented on the "Legal and Tax Implications of Over-Age Employment and Deferred Retirement Policies in China." He outlined how to optimize the tax structure of these engagements, covering both personal income tax for employees and corporate tax implications for cost management.

The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where attendees raised specific real-world scenarios for expert input, followed by a networking cocktail reception.

Last but not least, CICC extend sincere gratitude to our event sponsor: DP Winery and Arrail. While the seminar has concluded, we have more valuable events lined up for you in South China – save the dates below!
