Call for Bartenders for the Italian Cocktail Competition 2020

Dear CICC Members and Friends, 

 

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) is organizing “The Italian Week: The Culture of Quality”, which will be held from November 13th till November 20th, in Shanghai. 

The Italian Week will bring the best of ITALIAN QUALITY to Shanghai. 

Participants will have a full immersion in the Italian culture of quality without ever needing to leave China. 

In the framework of the Italian Week, the CICC is glad to announce the launch of the first Italian Cocktail Competition 2020!

 

    

       

The Italian Cocktail Competition aims to engage the bartender community of Shanghai and the Chinese cocktail lovers stressing on the authenticity of two Italian classic cocktails famous worldwide:

How to get involved?

 

1. Call for Bartenders 

1.1 Send your recipe 

Professional bartenders are invited to participate to this contest 

sending their recipe to infoshanghai@cameraitacina.com together with a short biography and picture (in English and Chinese);

posting a short video (not exceeding 1 min of length) on their Weibo platform featuring the hashtag #ItalianCocktailCompetition2020, #chinaitalycc before November 7th.

A committee composed of some CICC Board Members and the Sponsors will evaluate the candidates following the parameters below:

a. The recipe follows the general rules (see the cocktail recipe rules below)

b. The engagement level of the short video posted on the candidate’s Weibo account

Please note: every contestant will compete for all the three cocktails.

The qualified candidates will be invited to participate to the Semifinal. 

Total number of Bartenders: 15.

 

1.2 Let's taste your cocktail! 

Bar Hopping - November 10th – November 20th  

Before the Semifinals, the contestants are invited to promote their recipe in their bar. The bar customers, upon ordering the contest cocktail, will be invited to vote the cocktail through an online survey platform. 

The number of votes collected by each contestant during this phase will affect the score of the finals.

*The Sponsors are invited to give a special discount to those venues. 

**The contestants will be invited to keep the cocktail at the bar menu till November 30th , 2020.

 

1.3 Join the Semi-Finals - November 16th

The Semi-finals will be held in a cocktail bar in Shanghai that will be announced soon. 

Semi-finals: November 16th at 3 PM

In the Semi-final a judging panel of industry professionals will select the 3 best candidates for each specialization (Spritz, Negroni and UNESCO Site Cocktail). 

All contestants compete with 3 cocktails at the semi-finals, the top 3 for each category will be selected, the selected candidate can compete only for one section. 9 Semi-finalists (3 for each specialty) will compete at the finals.

 

1.4 Become Mr./Ms. Negroni, Spritz or UNESCO Site Cocktail!

Finals - November 20th 

The finals will be held in a cocktail bar in Shanghai that will be announced soon.

The 9 finalists (3 for each specialization) will be evaluated by a judging panel of industry professionals.  

The final award will be given to 3 bartenders for, respectively, the best Spritz, Negroni and UNESCO Site cocktail.

 

2. Recipe Qualification Criteria

Spritz

The recipe must contain Italian Prosecco Wine and a bitter liqueur. 

Both ingredients must be selected from the sponsors’ product range. Please download here the list of our sponsors’ products. 

The maximum number of ingredients allowed is 5 not including the garnish.

 

Negroni

The recipe must contain Gin, Vermouth, and Bitter Liqueur selected by the sponsors’ product range.

The maximum number of ingredients allowed is 5 not including the garnish.

 

UNESCO Site Cocktail-Mocktail 

The contestant has to reflect the elements from one Italian UNESCO Site or Chinese and Italian UNESCO site in the creation of the drink. (for example Venice Cocktail or Venice & Great Wall cocktail).

 

Semi-Finals

The judges will follow the parameters below:

1. Taste/Flavor & Balance: score from 1 to 10 – weight 40%

2. Appearance & Presentation: score from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

3. Communication (written description and/or speech): score from 1 to 10 – weight 30%

4. Technique & Skills: from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

5. Likes online during the contest: from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

English spoken language is considered a qualifying “must-have”

 

Finals

The judges will follow the parameters below:

1. Taste/Flavor & Balance: score from 1 to 10 – weight 40%

2. Appearance & Presentation: score from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

3. Communication (written description and/or speech): score from 1 to 10 – weight 30%

4. Technique & Skills: from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

5. Bar Hopping Votes: from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

a. Likes online during the contest: from 1 to 10 – weight 10%

 

Increase for a rating due to the Consumer Judge voting: the three cocktails that will be the most voted by the Bar Hopping scores and the live streaming during the contest will be assigned the following extra to the individual score achieved:

+ 10% to the most voted of the three on the Bar Hopping activity

+ 10% to the most “liked” of the three during the live streaming of the final

English spoken language is considered a qualifying “must-have”.

 

3. RULES OF THE CONTEST

In the Semi-finals to the contestants will be given:

1. Station Preparation: 2 minutes

2. Drink Preparation:10 minutes for making 3 cocktails

In the Finals to the contestants will be given:

Station Preparation 2 minutes
Drink Preparation: 5 minutes for making 1 cocktail

 

4. PRIZES

The winners of the Italian Cocktail Competition will be recruited (upon payment) by the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce to perform during at least 3 signature events in China.
Each winner will receive a Sponsor package.
Other special prizes will be announced soon! 

 

EXCLUSION FROM TENDER

In case of not meeting the conditions of the tendering process.

In case of non-conformity with the hereby open call for tender.

In case of submitting false data.

Late submission.

The results of the tendering shall be announced by email after proper evaluation.

After evaluating the quotation, CICC will give you feedback regarding the result

l Call for Bartenders: October 29th – November 7th. 

l Bar Hopping: November 10th – 20th 

l Contest (Semi-finals and Final): November 16th-20th
