Influences of Tax and Labour Laws in Your Business Structure – Seminar Guangzhou March, 21st

During this seminar, Guangzhou based lawyer Caroline Berube will give a practical overview of recent changes in tax law and labour law in China. The following will be discussed along with practical examples:

1. Social insurance law: new obligations for companies and foreign employees;
2. Employment of foreign employees: new challenges and strategy for companies in China;
3. Income tax law: new rules for both Chinese and foreign employees;
4. VAT reform: Shanghai pilot reform in force from January 1st,2012.

 

 

Ms. Berube graduated from McGill University with a BCL and LL.B. degree and completed her studies at the National University of Singapore with a focus on Chinese laws. She is a Canadian admitted to practice in New York and Singapore and has been based in China for more than a decade. Caroline began her legal career working in Singapore for a British law firm. During that period, she represented international corporate clients and banks in asset-financing and merger and acquisition cross-border transactions in the northern part of Asia (such as China, Taiwan and Hong Kong).

In 2002, she moved to China to be part of the rapidly developing legal industry there and joined a Chinese law firm that specialised in corporate law. Since then, her career has focused on Chinese corporate law and commercial practice, an area in which she has built a well-respected expertise amongst many European, Asian and North American clients. Caroline is especially well-regarded for advising clients on their Asian legal structure, based on her sound understanding of the pitfalls and advantages of most Asian jurisdictions.

Ms. Berube has advised clients in various industries such as manufacturing, energy (oil, gas and mining), technology and services. Due to her longstanding expertise, practice and professionalism as a lawyer in China, she has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers.

Ms. Barube is also a regular speaker at many international conferences in Asia, North America and Europe on corporate and commercial law, labour law and intellectual property matters.

Ms Barube is an arbitrator approved by the Chinese European Arbitration Center.
