28 September 2023

September 23rd, 2023 marked the end of the 23rd edition of the China International Industry Fair (CIIF) which took place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai.

Italy is a significant economic partner of China and one of the main participating countries in CIIF 2023. The 2023 edition was very successful and satisfactory for the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, which organized, for the second time together with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), an Italian Pavilion, gathering more than 60 companies and associations. Not only the number of Italian exhibitors exceeded the previous edition of the fair in 2020, but it was the largest international pavilion at CIIF, covering 1,300 square meters.

Why was it important to be there?

After several postponements in previous years, Italy was a protagonist of the fair in this 2023 edition!

CIIF is the top-tier international industrial exhibition for equipment manufacturing in China as well as in the Asia-Pacific region. It serves as an important window for technological exchanges and economic cooperation between China and countries and regions worldwide. China, as a significant trading partner of Italy, has witnessed continuous growth in bilateral trade in recent years. As Italy-China economic cooperation thriving, the main sector of bilateral commercial trade in 2022 confirmed by ISTAT (Italian National Statistical Institute) has been Machinery and Equipment. According to data from Eurostat, Italian export of Mechanical and related equipment to China accounted for 40.93% of total Italian export to China, with a value of 6.727 billion euros, while the total Italian export value was 16.441 billion euros. The data demonstrate the close cooperative relationship between China and Italy in the field of economic and trade, as well as the strong complementarity between companies of the two countries.

What goals have been achieved?

The key figures of CIIF clearly show the outstanding results obtained by the Italian system thanks to its long-time engagement and networking activity in China.
