Post Event - EY Seminar: "China invests in Italy: opportunities in pharma and medical devices sectors"

Dear Members and Friends,

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) is glad to announce that the Seminar “China invests in Italy: opportunities in pharma and medical devices sectors”, organized by EY with the support of CICC, was successfully held on Wednesday, 16th October in Shanghai.

 

Mr. Lin Zhong, Managing Partner Chen&Co, opened the event, welcoming all the participants to the Shanghai EY Office, where the seminar was held.

The first speaker, Mr. Roberto Pagani, Science and Technology Counsellor of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, noted that China and Italy are performing the same issue of increasing average age of population, thus leading to many similarities between the two countries and to several connecting opportunities.

 

Afterwards, Mr. Valtero Canepa, Vice Chairman Shanghai of China-Italy Chamber of Commerce and Bracco General Manager, explained why Italy is the right country to address investments to. In fact, Italy is a leading country in pharma and medical devices sectors as it accounts many companies with a vast experience in these matters.

The following speaker was Mr. Aldo Brielli, EY Lawyer, who described the details of two major regulations existing in Europe about this topic: Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and In Vitro Diagnostic medical device Regulation (IVDR).

 

Right after, Mr. Giorgio Casella, EY lawyer, stated that investing in Italy is not more complicated than in other countries, but requires the right approach. In fact, as long as regulations are followed, doing business in China in these sectors is possible and also very appealing.

In the end, Ms. Hua Su, EY Parthenon Partner - Leader in the life science and health care sectors - showed how, even if this market is not very large, it experienced many and important transaction. Investing in an Italian businesses in these industries, indeed, represents a winning solution as investors can diversify their portfolio strategy while enhancing their knowledge in those fields.

  

The whole seminar was concluded by the Q&A session and the networking cocktail.
