The documents, covering the period from 1903 to 1924, are preserved in the Historical–Diplomatic Archives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome (ASDMAE, Italian Diplomatic and Consular Representations in Beijing, Pos. 50, b. 54, files 675–676). These materials provide an exceptional resource for the study of socio-economic interactions and transnational patterns of human mobility between Italy and China in the first quarter of the twentieth century, a period framed by the transition from the Qing Empire to the Republic of China. The volume has been published by the Department of Education Sciences of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China.
