Covid-19 in China | Actions in progress and next steps from CICC

15 四月 2022

Dear Members and Friends,

The new epidemic wave that is putting a strain on some areas of China is having a significant impact on the Italian business community.

With our offices located in the various regions of China, we have been closely monitoring the situation for weeks, acting in close synergy with the Embassy of Italy in Beijing and the consular network to better support our companies in a time of difficulty for everyone.

Our thoughts go out to you, especially to all of our Members in Shanghai, where one of the most severe lockdowns since the beginning of the pandemic is currently taking place. The current measures taken to try and contain the recent COVID-19 outbreak are causing shipping delays at ports followed by significant disruptions extending from logistics and production all the way along the entire supply chain within China. This is having a significant impact on the business operations of our companies.

This emergency is highlighting the strength of the solidarity network created among members and the Italian business community. They are sharing with no interruptions valuable information, suggestions as well as solutions to overcome difficulties.

We contacted the food and beverage companies belonging to the CICC network in Shanghai and asked them about the possibility – unfortunately still limited – to organize deliveries. To support the supply of food, we are gathering any contact information from suppliers currently operational.

CICC would like to remark on the importance of the communication among our Members as the key factor to overcome this outbreak.

Actions in progress and next steps:
1. On April 22nd we will organize the first of a series of webinars on the Current Outbreak in East China - A Dialogue with the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai and representatives from Key industries.

2. Today we are launching a second survey aimed at assessing the impact of the recent restrictions related to Covid-19 on the activities of the Italian business community in China. The survey covers all regions of China, not just the Shanghai area. In light of the results of the survey, we will inform our diplomatic representation in order to advocate together the serious difficulties faced by our businesses towards the local and national authorities.

To download the report with the results of the first survey, please scan the following QR code:

We will continue to share information from our members, the Consulate and the local government to help keep you informed.
