Celebrating Ludovico Nicola di Giura in Beijing

On May 20th, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce attended an event organized by the Italian Embassy in Beijing dedicated to Ludovico Nicola di Giura, a prominent figure in the history of Italy-China relations, and to the promotion of the Basilicata region.

The event was opened by H.E. Massimo Ambrosetti, Ambassador of Italy to the People’s Republic of China, and brought together members of the Italian and Chinese cultural, academic, and business communities to honor di Giura’s role as a bridge between two cultures during the early 20th century.

Representing the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, Chairman Lorenzo Riccardi delivered a speech focused on the history of economic relations between Italy and China and the origins and evolution of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China. Highlighting the foundation of the Chamber in 1903 and its growth into a key institution for Italian business in the region, the Chairman underscored how historical ties—rooted in diplomacy, commerce, and culture—continue to inform present-day cooperation.

Following Alessandro Zanella, Chief of the Health Service of the Italian Navy in Venice, presented the history of Ludovico Di Giura, followed by Jinsiao Wang, PhD Candidate in Historical.

During the event, Lavinia di Giura, Grand-nephew of Ludovico Nicola di Giura Introduced Di Giura’s Legacy in Torre Albineta.

The event was closed by Carmine Cicala, Regional Minister for Agriculture and Forestry and Federico Roberto Antonelli, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture.
