28 May 2025

The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) held its Members’ Briefing event titled “Adapting to the New Global Landscape: Trade, Tariffs and Green Shift” on May 27th at Capital Club Beijing. The event brought together around 40 participants for an in-depth discussion on shifting trade dynamics, evolving tariff regimes, and China’s accelerating green transition.

The event was hosted by Francesco Innocenti, CICC Board Member North China, and saw the opening remarks of Liam Jia, Team Lead at the EU SME Centre who introduced the work of the Centre, highlighting its role in supporting European small and medium-sized enterprises through knowledge, training, and tailored advice for the Chinese market.

The core of the briefing featured presentations by three keynote speakers who offered participants a comprehensive understanding of the forces reshaping the global and regional business landscape, from tariffs and regulatory shifts to climate policy and macroeconomic realignment.

  • Tina Zhang, Indirect Tax and Global Trade Partner at EY, offered a practical breakdown of current tariff measures, customs reforms, and their impact on cross-border operations.
  • Violante di Canossa, Development Economist, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Policy Team at UNDP China, introduced China’s climate policy directions and highlighted how sustainability is becoming a central driver of competitiveness.
  • Alfredo Montufar-Helu, Senior Advisor to the China Centre at The Conference Board, presented an Asia-wide macroeconomic outlook, urging companies to stay nimble amid shifting regional trends.

Following the presentations, participants had the chance to engage directly with speakers during the networking aperitif, foster connections and build new partnerships.
